The Sherman Police Pipe Band is a musical and ceremonial unit comprised of active law enforcement personnel as well as civilian personnel from the Sherman Police Department who represent the community through the unique music of Scottish Highland bagpiping and drumming.

The role of piping and drumming in the police and fire services throughout the United States finds its origins with the numerous Scottish and Irish immigrants who came to America over 150 years ago. Those early immigrants took on the most dangerous and largely unwanted jobs of their time as police officers and firefighters. They brought with them centuries of tradition and culture which included the hauntingly beautiful sound of the Great Highland bagpipes. For centuries, the pipes and drums have been played as a way of honoring fallen heroes and to celebrate important events. This tradition came to America with those early immigrants and continues strong to this day.

The Sherman Police Pipe Band was founded in 2014 after the line of duty death of a local law enforcement officer. The band stands ever ready to honor the lives and service of our fallen heroes through its unique and historic music. In addition to memorial honors, the band performs in numerous events each year throughout the State of Texas and other states, including parades, cultural events, competitions, grand openings, weddings, funerals, religious services, sporting events, and more. The band is involved in many aspects of the Sherman and Texoma community and engages directly with members of the community.

The Sherman Police Pipe Band is supported by the Sherman Police Department. Band leadership is comprised of a Drum Major, a Pipe Major, a Drum Sergeant, and a Pipe Sergeant. Oversight and final authority of the band rests with the office of the Sherman Chief of Police.
