Formed in 1946. And still going strong.

The Kinross Pipe Band was formed in the summer of 1946 to play at local galas, festival events and pipe band competitions.

During its long history the band has always been keen to travel to competitions near and far. During a normal season, the band would, and still does take part in most of the local competitions and some or all of the 5 “Major” championships, wherever they may be held, and has won the Grade 3 World Championships twice.

Through the town twinning scheme the band has travelled to France on various occasions, and played at the Celtic music festivals in Lorient, Brittany four times. In 1994 they attended and played for the Celtic Congress held in Cornwall, while individual members have played at events worldwide, including Tokyo and Bangkok.

The Kinross and District Pipe Band has a tradition of supporting local charities by playing for them without charge when asked.

The Band has seen a number of uniform changes over the decades, and a few changes of tartan and colours. Until recently, the Kinross & District Pipe Band wore the Prince Charles Edward Stewart tartan. But at the end of 2014, the old uniforms began to show their age, and time came once again for a complete change of uniform.

Starting with the 2015 season, the Band now wears our very own tartan - the Pride of Kinross. The Kinross & District Pipe Band very gratefully acknowledges the generous support of Arthur & Margaret Thompson’s Charitable Trust, Kinross Ladies Circle and the Kinross Round Table to fund the purchase of our new uniforms.

Band Practice. Getting better and better all the time.

We have two practice sessions each week. The main full band practice session is every Thursday evening, at the Masonic Hall, The Muirs, Kinross (map). There is also a a secondary practice on Tuesdays at Backstage at the Green, Kinross (map).

A typical practice is as follows:

19:00 - Mainly learners on the chanter or drums 19:30 - Pipe corps do chanter work, while drummers work on pads 20:00 - Pipes and drums come out, the Band tunes up and plays a few selections together 21:30 - Practice finishes Usually, the band will concentrate on practicing competition tunes for the current or forthcoming season. All players, young or old, learners or more experienced, are very welcome to join the Band.If you’re interested in joining the Band, whatever your level of experience, feel free to contact us.
