Our Goal is to promote the scottish heritage and music of the Great Highland Bagpipe and Drums through communication, teaching and performance of its dedicated membership. Lessons are provided for a nominal charge, and students are required to purchase their own chanters, lesson publications and eventually bagpipes as well as all associated band kit. Our eventual goal is to provide band uniforms (i.e. kilts, sporrans, shirts, ties, hose, etc.) through various donations and/or band fund raisers.

This non-profit organization is dedicated to the preservation of this historic instrument and the traditions that accompany the music through scottish festivities in the form of family gatherings, highland games and calieghs.

The idea of an Elko Pipe and Drum Band was originally the dream of Reverand Shawn Duncan. Under the original instruction of piper Ron Dickenson, and assistance from piper/instructor Roger MacGregor, they both created what is now the Ruby Mountain Highlanders Pipe Band (RMHPB). The original chanter group started meeting in January 1999 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and the band was officially formed in September 1999 playing its debut performance in the 12th Annual Nevada Parade in October ‘99.

Shawn and Tory Duncan moved away from Elko in March 1999 to Buffalo, New York, however, their dream of having a band in the beautiful town of Elko, NV has blossomed into a reality.
