City of Thorold Pipe Band

Since the founding of the City of Thorold Pipe Band in 1986, by our founding Pipe Major the late James (3Jimmy) Greig, we have entertained audiences both in North America, and in Europe.

We are the City of Thorold Pipe Band. Not sure what that means? We’ll try our best to explain. A pipe band is a group of musicians consisting of bagpipers, snare drummers, tenor drummers, and a bass drummer. Bands will typically perform as one group all playing at the same time at festivals, parades, private functions, and even competitions.

We as the City of Thorold Pipe Band try to manage a balance between all of those types of events to make ourselves a versatile organization. In early 2019, the band decided to further that versatility by adding band competitions starting in 2020! This has never officially been a focus of the band in the past 30 plus years, however, we felt it was necessary for us to create an appeal for a broader variety of players and to increase our longevity.

The main focus of this group has always been FUN, and it always will be. We enjoy great comradery with each other in all of the events we participate in. It really is an atmosphere where you create lasting friendships, great memories, and an extended family.
