William Pitt Returns to Office Following a Disagreement With George III Over Catholic Emancipation,

After resigning as Prime Minister following a disagreement with King George III over Catholic Emancipation, William Pitt the Younger returns to office.
Pitt had initially stepped down in 1801 when the King, citing his coronation oath to uphold the Protestant religion, refused to support the proposal to allow Catholics greater civil rights. Catholic Emancipation, which Pitt supported as part of the Act of Union with Ireland in 1800, was thus shelved, leading to his resignation. However, with Britain under increasing threat from Napoleonic France and national security becoming paramount, Pitt was recalled to office in 1804. His second term as Prime Minister was dominated by war efforts and attempts to strengthen British alliances against Napoleon, though Catholic Emancipation would remain unresolved until later in the 19th century.
