Seven Church Ministers of the Presbytery of Strathbogie Were Removed From Their Posts

Seven Ministers Removed by the Church of Scotland General Assembly
1841 Strathbogie, Scotland
Seven church ministers from the Presbytery of Strathbogie were removed from their posts by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for choosing to obey civil law over ecclesiastical authority. The ministers had defied church instructions by proceeding with the induction of a minister opposed by the local congregation, following a civil court ruling rather than a directive from the Church.
This incident became a flashpoint in the growing tension between church and state in Scotland and contributed directly to the Disruption of 1843, when hundreds of ministers broke away to form the Free Church of Scotland.
