Rebel Southern Column Captures Goresbridge, Co. Kilkenny and Camps at Bunreagh; Rebel Northern Column Moves into Wicklow Mountains and Camps at Ballymanus

During the 1798 Irish Rebellion, rebel forces launched coordinated operations across various regions of Ireland. On this date:

-	The Rebel Southern Column achieved a strategic victory by capturing Goresbridge, a key crossing on the River Barrow in County Kilkenny. Control of the bridge allowed the rebels to secure important routes and supply lines. After the capture, the column established camp at Bunreagh, using the area as a base for further movements in the southeast.
-	Meanwhile, the Rebel Northern Column maneuvered into the Wicklow Mountains, a natural stronghold for insurgent activity due to its rugged terrain. They set up camp at Ballymanus, positioning themselves to launch raids and evade British forces.

These movements were part of a broader guerrilla strategy following the collapse of more centralized rebel efforts, particularly after defeats in Wexford. Rebel forces in the south and north continued to fight in fragmented yet determined resistance well into the summer of 1798.
