On August 21, 1930, Princess Margaret Rose was born at Glamis Castle in Angus, Scotland. She was the second daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York, later King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), making her the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II.

Her birth was historically significant for several reasons:

•	She was the first royal princess born in Scotland in over 300 years, the last being in the 17th century.
•	Margaret’s birth marked the final time a British royal birth was attended by the Home Secretary, a tradition dating back to Queen Victoria’s reign. This practice was originally intended to ensure the legitimacy and security of the royal succession. The Home Secretary at the time, J.R. Clynes, witnessed the birth.

Princess Margaret became known for her glamorous public persona and often controversial private life. She played an important role in British cultural and royal life throughout the 20th century.
