James IV Crowned King at the Age Of, 15 at Scone

1488 – James IV Crowned King of Scotland
James IV of Scotland was crowned at the age of 15 at Scone Abbey, following the death of his father, James III, who was killed during the Battle of Sauchieburn—a rebellion in which James IV had been implicated.
Despite the circumstances of his ascent, James IV would become one of Scotland’s most respected and Renaissance-minded monarchs. His reign was marked by efforts to modernize the kingdom, foster learning and the arts, and strengthen royal authority.
James IV ruled until 1513, when he was killed at the Battle of Flodden Field in Northumberland during a disastrous invasion of England. The battle was one of Scotland’s greatest military defeats, and James IV was the last British monarch to die in battle, falling alongside much of the Scottish nobility—a loss later mourned as the “Flower of Scotland.”
