The Scots Magazine was originally published in January 1739. It was intended as a rival to the London-based Gentleman’s Magazine, in order that “our countrymen might have the production of every month sooner, cheaper and better collected than before”.

Battle at London, Sir Thomas Wyatt defeated

Wyatt’s Rebellion was a limited and unsuccessful uprising in England in early 1554 led by four men, one of whom was Sir Thomas Wyatt. It was given its name by the attorney at Wyatt’s arraignment, who stated for the record that “this shall be ever called Wyatt’s Rebellion”.
