Robert Burns - Scottish Poet - born.

Edward Moore, 5th Earl of Drogheda and former Member of Parliament for Dunleer, tragically drowns at sea alongside his son, Edward Moore, who served as Chaplain to the House of Commons. The two were en route from England to Dublin when their vessel was lost.
The deaths of father and son were a significant blow to both the Anglo-Irish aristocracy and the ecclesiastical establishment, highlighting the perils of sea travel between Britain and Ireland in the 18th century. Moore’s passing marked the end of a prominent political and noble career, and the double loss underscored the fragility of dynastic succession in turbulent times.
