William John Bremner, professional footballer and manager, born in Scotland

William John Bremner (9 December 1942 – 7 December 1997) was a Scottish professional footballer and manager. Regarded as one of the game’s great midfielders, he combined precision passing skills with tenacious tackling and physical stamina. He played for Leeds United from 1959 to 1976, serving as captain from 1965, in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.

King Malcolm IV, died at Jedburgh Castle

King Malcolm IV, of Scotland, (between 23 April and 24 May 1141 – 9 December 1165) nicknamed Virgo, “the Maiden” Malcolm the Maiden, died at Jedburgh Castle, Roxburghshire, Scotland on December 09, 1165. He was the grandson of David I and became the King of Scotland in 1153 at the age of 12, succeeding his grandfather. He was the King of Scotland until is his death, 1165.

Williamite forces defeat Jacobites at Battle of Reading, forcing James II to flee England

The Battle of Reading took place on 9 December 1688 in Reading, Berkshire. It was one of only two substantial military actions in England during the Glorious Revolution (the other being at Wincanton), and was a decisive victory for forces loyal to William III of Orange. The victory was celebrated in Reading for many years.
