Clan na Gael, an influential Irish-American revolutionary organization, is formed in the United States in the late 1860s, emerging as the counterpart to the Irish Republican Brotherhood (IRB). Among its key founders and leaders were John Devoy, Daniel Cohalan, and Joseph McGarrity.

Dedicated to achieving Irish independence from British rule, Clan na Gael became a powerful force in the Irish nationalist movement abroad, raising funds, organizing support, and coordinating operations between Irish republicans in America and Ireland. The organization played a pivotal role in financing the Easter Rising of 1916, supporting the Anglo-Irish War, and sustaining Irish republican efforts well into the 20th century.
