Alice Stopford Green is born in Kells, County Meath, on May 30, 1847. A pioneering Irish historian and nationalist, she is best known for challenging colonial narratives by demonstrating that Ireland possessed a rich and sophisticated culture prior to English rule. Her influential works, including The Making of Ireland and Its Undoing, reshaped perceptions of Irish history. A strong supporter of the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921, she is nominated to the first Seanad Éireann (Senate) in December 1922, becoming one of the few women in early Irish political life and a key figure in the cultural nationalism of her time.
