Anna Catherine Parnell, sister of Charles Stewart Parnell and Fanny Parnell, is born in Avondale, County Wicklow, on May 13, 1852. A passionate nationalist and social reformer, she co-founded the Irish Ladies’ Land League in 1881, serving as its effective leader. Under her guidance, the League supported tenant families during the Land War, organized resistance, and promoted women’s political involvement. Though often overshadowed by her brother, Anna Parnell is now recognized as a pioneering figure in Irish feminist and nationalist history.
