Materials and design
The Shadow announcement describes a velvet-coated aluminium body with solid brass components and timber detailing. Its split mouthpiece and raised reed-seat design aim to reduce water pooling around the reed. Silicone O-rings provide the seals between components.

Tuning for ensemble playing
Hilton describes the chanter as designed around equal temperament, with the aim of making it easier to play alongside other instruments. Equal temperament divides an octave into twelve equal pitch steps; it is a common reference for fixed-pitch instruments such as the piano.
That design aim does not make tuning automatic. Modern Piping notes that reed variation, blowing pressure, weather and altitude can affect the scale, and recommends starting with the supplied reed and making minor adjustments where needed.
Availability and ordering
The announcement describes small-batch production, limited to 50 instruments per month. Availability and dispatch dates can change, so consult the shop before ordering. Orders require a signature on delivery, and shipments outside Australia may incur customs charges. The maker also notes that prototype photographs can differ slightly from the finished instrument.
