A Highlander’s Dream, directed by Robert J. Carruba, has won Best Documentary Short at the 2026 New York Long Island Film Festival, according to the filmmaker’s announcement. The award marks the first win for December Seven Studios.

The documentary was selected for the festival’s 2026 program, bringing piping and Highland drumming to a film-festival audience. In announcing the award, the filmmaker thanked NYLIFF for screening the film and recognizing it in the documentary short category.

A shared achievement for the piping community

The announcement credits Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, Traci Cooper and the Cooper family, Stuart Liddell, and Robyn McKay for helping make the film and its success possible.

The filmmaker also thanked everyone who watched and shared the documentary, describing that support as encouragement to keep the traditions of bagpiping and Highland drumming alive for future generations.

Congratulations to December Seven Studios and everyone involved in A Highlander’s Dream.
