Iain Sherwood has been a piper for forty-one years, and was taught by Bill Anderson, Hector Cameron on the East Coast, George Stoddart in Scotland, and Jock Sneddon and John Partanen in the west.

Iain Sherwood has been a piper for forty-three years, and was taught by Bill Anderson, Hector Cameron on the East Coast, George Stoddart in Scotland, and Jock Sneddon and John Partanen in the west.

He has played for many notables, including clan chiefs, political figures, and Royals. He had a successful competition career in the late sixties and early seventies. He currently teaches piping in the East Bay area of San Francisco, in San Leandro. In 2001 he instructed actor René Auberjonois for an episode of NASH BRIDGES, and the pipe music heard on episode 616 was Iain playing 'The Golden Gate,' a piobaireachd he composed a year before. The tune heard as background on this page is 'LAMENT FOR MY BROTHER,' composed in 2002, and played at the funeral of Major Charles Sherwood III USMCRet.

In 1998-9 he consulted on notation and embellishments for the recent release of Bagpipe Music Writer Gold, the premier pipe music engraving software, published by Robert MacNeil Musicworks of Canada.

In addition to piping, he is an accomplished silver- and gold- smith, creating historically accurate designs of dirks, sporrans, brooches, sgians, and other Highland Dress accessories, many of which are on display at www.cuillinn.com.
