University Of Bedfordshire Pipe Band
Description:
Info:
Detail:
The band was formed in 1966 by local ex-patriot Scots, and during the 70's and 80's they performed at many prestigious events and competitions throughout the country. In 1993, after many changes, the band became associated with the newly formed University of Luton, and is now called the "University of Bedfordshire Pipe Band", reflecting recent changes in the University's status. The band saw huge success under the leadership of P/M Tony Doherty, and between 1999 and 2002 progressed in the competition circuit from Grade 4 to Grade 2 where that success continued unabated. In 2003 a Grade 4 band was restarted with the aim of teaching young pipers and drummers who would then progress to the Grade 2 band, and a teaching programme has been introduced with members encouraged to take the relevant examinations in piping or drumming. 2008 saw an influx of new players to both the Grade 4 and Grade 2 bands, and also saw the return of Anthony Doherty to assist P/M Tony Doherty in the running of the Grade 2 Band.
