The 5th Gibraltar Sea Scouts Group (Royal Navy Troop No. 101), the best Scouts troop in Gibraltar since 1914 with the best Sea Scouts Pipe Band The Gibraltar Sea Scouts Pipe Band is one of the 2 Scout bands in Gibraltar. The band firstly consisted of Bugles, Bell Lyres, Side and Tenor Drums, 1 Bass drum and Bagpipes. Since then, the band has dropped the bugles and bell lyres which are now part of the other Scout band, a Bugle & Drum Corps. The band is very popular and famous and have played at Blair Atholl International Jamborette, Asturias, Manilva, Estepona and Mijas in Spain and many more places. There are currently 28 members in the band. We have 14 in the Pipes section, 7 members in the bass or 'midsection' which consists of 6 tenors and 1 bass drummer and 7 members in the Drum Corps. Our Pipe Major is Tony Galliano, Drum Major Alexei Borge, Pipe Sergeant Alex Nunez and Leading Drummer is Alfred Rovegno. All band members must be Sea Scouts or Scouts at some point to join the band. The average age of the band is 25 with the youngest member bieng 12 and our oldest being 55. All pipers are taught at first by the Pipe Sergeant or Pipe Major. The snare drum corps is taught by Alfred Rovegno, who also writes beats for the bass section. The Tenor side of the bass section is taught by Jeremy Lima or Christopher Gomez. They teach new tenors to flourish along with basic beats. The band meets every Monday and occasionally on Thursdays at Number 4 Dock, HMS Rooke. Once there, we split up into 2 sections (Pipes and Drums) to practice seperately then we re-group to play together.
