St Patrick's Battalion Pipes And Drums
Mexican Pipeband
History The band was established in 1997, 150th anniversary of the events that surrounded the St. Patrick’s Battalion, who were a group of Irish and Scottish soldiers that fought on the Mexican side during the war with the United States in 1847. Mision "Our mission is to promote Highland Bagpipe Music in Mexico and to honour the members of the Saint Patrick’s Battalion that died far away from their land of birth defending their newly adopted country." Tartan The band proudly wears the MacKenzie of Seaforth Tartan as worn by the Seaforth Highlanders. With this tartan we pay tribute to our Scottish musical heritage and the St. Andrew’s Society of Mexico, established in 1893, with its long history of upholding Scotland’s traditions and cultural ties. This tartan combines the green, white and red of the Mexican flag with the blue and white of the Scottish Saltire, symbolizing the unity and fraternity of these two nations.
