Tayside Police Pipe Band
The Tayside Police Pipe Band celebrated its centenary in 2005.
he Dundee City Police pipe band was inaugurated in 1905 when a small group of piping devotees in the force received permission from the Chief Constable to form a band.
There were only two other police pipe bands in Scotland at the time, one in Govan and one in Edinburgh.
Initially, band members had no uniforms, funds or equipment other than the bagpipes owned by individual members of the force. There was however no lack of enthusiasm, and through fundraising concerts and donations, uniforms were soon purchased.
The band finished a creditable third place in the RSPBA Dunbar Pipe Band Competition held on Saturday 12th May 2007. In the band's first outing in Grade 1, played in cold conditions, they were beaten by the Vale of Atholl and Clan Gregor Pipe Bands.
