Scottish Gourmet USA is here today because Scotland has a unique food called the langoustine, a Norway Lobster or Dublin Bay prawn.
Cherished by the world’s best chefs for it sweet tender flesh, langoustines live only in the perfectly clean, icy cold water along the muddy shores of Scotland and Norway. Two years ago, a native Scot, my husband Andrew Hamilton, was challenged by a well-known New York restaurateur to get him some live langoustines. A few weeks later, the first shipment of live langoustines arrived by air from Scotland. Heralded by the New York Times as “exquisite crustaceans”, langoustines are now found on the best menus in New York. Next he added game birds, fresh mushrooms and more seasonal foods from Scotland. The Scottish food was flown in fresh twice a week, and the chefs kept asking for more. Then the phone calls started coming from consumers as well. “Where do I get langoustines for my party?” Scottish Gourmet USA was founded with the belief that the best foods from Scotland should also be available to gourmet cooks at home. Together, we have taste tested hundreds of Scottish foods, and convinced many small restaurant suppliers in Scotland to make their first export shipments ever to Scottish Gourmet USA. You, the home gourmet chef, also deserve the finest ingredients and Scottish food and we aim to offer just that. Launched through Gourmet Food Mall in mid-June 2005 with just the beginning of the many new treats to come, we hope you’ll come to visit often.
