Toronto Police Pipe Band

The Toronto Police Pipe Band is a Grade 1 competing band located in Toronto, Ontario Canada.
The Toronto Police Pipe Band was originally formed in 1912 under the direction of Pipe Major Thomas Ross, a police constable and son of Scottish immigrants. The band wears the Red Ross Tartan in his honour. The band was in demand throughout Ontario for ceremonial occasions and performances. It was also used for recruiting drives during the First and Second World Wars. As with many members of the old Toronto Police Force, several pipers enlisted to serve their country during WW II. Toronto Police pipers had the distinction of leading their respective regiments into battle in every major theatre of the war. In the 1970's the band branched out from ceremonial and community performances and began to take part in the world of pipe band competitions with considerable success. The Band is comprised of police officers, civilian police members and many non-Toronto Police members from all walks of life, who together perform at almost 200 engagements per year. The Band remains true to it's policing and community roots and annually can be seen at some of the larger city events, such as the Toronto Santa Claus Parade, St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the Khalsa Day Parade to name a few as well as the Provincial and Federal Police Officers memorial services. The Band has performed extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Great Britain, Bermuda and Mexico. The Toronto Police Pipe Band continues to operate on the competition circuit and had the distinction of being crowned the Grade 1 North American Pipe Band Champions in 2004. The march past tune of the Toronto Police Pipe Band is the Maple Leaf Forever.
