Allegheny and District Pipe Band

The band adopted the Anciet Duncan Tartan, and competed throughout the United States and Canada. In 1999 ADPB travelled to Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships in Grade III.
On a cold December night in 1993, Pipe Major A.G. Lee Jr. of the Black Thistle Pipe Band wondered where he could find more pipers for his band. Meanwhile 100 miles away, Pipe Major David Thompson of the Grove City Highland Band wondered where he could find more drummers for his band. Phone calls were made. Both Pipe Majors slept that night knowing something great was about to happen. Several weeks later, in Cranberry, Pennsylvania, members of both bands met for the first time. Even though there were some new faces, many were recognized from competing against each other over the years. Introductions were made, hand shakes exchanged and then the sounds of a pipe band began. Our first season was quickly upon us. The band competed through out the summer of 1994. Our kilts were different but the band sounded like one. The first win came in September 1994 at Williamsburg, Virginia. During the next season, the band competed from New York to Georgia. The band won 13 straight contests, a feat that had never been done before. The band was rewarded with the Eastern United States Supreme Championship Supreme and was designated the Best Overall Band in Grade IV. As a result of the successful season we were upgraded to Grade III . Over the next several seasons the band adopted the Anciet Duncan Tartan, and competed throughout the United States and Canada. In 1999 ADPB travelled to Glasgow, Scotland to compete in the World Pipe Band Championships in Grade III. In 2006 the band found itself rebuilding after losing many members to colleges and different venues. With a few of the original members and a bunch of new pipers and drummers, we are confident that within a short period of time, the Allegheny & District Pipe Band will return to our winning status.
