Rochester Pipes and Drums is a non-competition bagpipe band, based in Rochester, Minnesota.
In the early 1970s, Pipe Major David Thomas emmigrated from West Mosby, Montana to Rochester. With him came a love for the highland bagpipe, which he shared with the residents of Rochester by forming The Mantorville Grenadiers. For the remainder of the 20th century many pipers and drummers proudly carried on this great tradition of “bringing bagpipe music to the people.” The new century brought a new cohort of pipers to the Grenadiers, and with this new group came a renewed emphasis on musical expression and a new name: The Rochester Pipes and Drums. Today’s band embodies the traditions of the Grenadiers : sharing the beauty and excitement of Scottish pipes and drums with the community. Rochester pipes and drums is a non-competition bagpipe band, based in rochester, minnesota. we play performances throughout southeastern minnnesota and northern iowa.
