Looking to start a new pipe band to represent the u.s. navy
Looking for interested personnel to form a new band in the area of naval air station Jacksonville, Florida. Anyone active duty or retired navy, coast guard or marine corp. Do you have Scottish or Irish ancestry and have a love for the bagpipes or just a love for Bagpipe music? Do you like attending the Scottish Highland Games in local areas? Do you like being part of formal or informal ceremonies? Do you like pageantry? Do you play the Bagpipes or Scottish/Irish style drumming or wish to learn? Do you like to just have fun with other people having the same interest, likes and desires? What was once associated strictly with the military or war has now become more recognized with the civilian community, and Police & Fire Departments. In the United States each branch of the U.S. Military Service Academies have their own Pipes & Drums bands. There are Pipes & Drum bands in branches of the Armed Forces or Reserve Units, and service associations around the country. I have been playing the bagpipes off and on for over 35 years, and held most if not all positions in a band at one time or another including Pipe Major. I am interested in starting a new band here at N.A.S. Jacksonville. The band would be available for most functions and shows in the area and eventually on the competition circuit. I cannot gaurantee support from the Navy or the use of any facility on the Navy base. This is and would be my goal, to achieve sponsorship by N.A.S. but again no gaurantees.
