Morpeth Pipe Band
Welcome to the Morpeth Pipe Band, Northumberland, UK.
Although it was known there was a pipe band in this small Northumbrian market town in 1913, it was not until 1917 that it became fully organised. Sir George Renwick, who was excavating the remains of the old abbey on the outskirts of the town, heard some pipers playing by the river and, on being told they were trying to organise a pipe band, offered to buy them uniforms and equipment. The tartan of the uniform was the Gordon tartan and was chosen by Lady Renwick. The first members of the Band were a father and son called Strong, Piper Grey (Secretary), Mr. Glass, Tiny Wilson, Mr Tweedy, Ned Tate and Tuck.
