The City of Dunedin Pipe Band was founded in 1964. The group of approximately 40 members is split into two competitive pipe bands that travel the state of Florida, throughout the North American continent, and the United Kingdom. The Grade II band is rated as one of the best pipe bands in North America. The band has won the US Championships in Alma, Michigan three times, the Rocky Mountain International Championship, and took a second place in the Grade III World Pipe Band Championships in 1998. The Grade IV band has also competed successfully, winning the Southern US Pipe Band Championships in 2002. They also placed second in the Northern Ireland Championships and second in the 2005 World Highland Games in Calendar, Scotland. The band was recently upgraded to Grade III by the Southern US Pipe Band Association. The bands are under the direction of Pipe Major Sandy Keith. In addition to competing, the band is seen throughout the community in various special events. The pipe band has had the honor of playing for the Queen of England’s ship The Britannia, and the inauguration of Governor Jeb Bush.
