Black Watch Association Atlantic Pipes and Drums
The Nova Scotia International Tattoo house band, which forms the nucleus of all, pipes and drums in the Tattoo.
The Nova Scotia International Tattoo 2002 saw a new band on the floor. Producer / Director Ian Fraser had suggested the formation of a new band, composed of volunteers from all over the Maritimes, who would gather periodically for practice and be available for the Tattoo. The band would be funded by the Tattoo Society, and sponsored by the Black Watch Association in Atlantic Canada. Tattoo 2002 saw the new band on the floor for the first time. The original plan expected no more than 15 volunteers in the first year; Interest was much higher, and 28 volunteers under the direction of Pipe Major Jim Patterson formed the nucleus of all the pipes and drums on the floor. The new band participated in all pipe music scenes, and was featured along with the Pipes and Drums of the Black Watch (RHR) of Canada from Montreal in the Black Watch scene which celebrated the 140th anniversary of the Black Watch. The band gets together for practice on the first Sunday of each month, and is currently working on the music for Tattoo 2004. They have also selected a number of marches, strathspeys and reels for presentation at public or private events. New volunteers are still encouraged. If you think you might be interested, please contact Pipe Major Patterson at (506)-433-5334.
