Previously known as Delville Pipeband SA , the SA Scots has broader regionalization and is now a "South African" national band.
SA Scots Society was founded in 2003 by a collective of like-minded pipe band groups and individuals. As the name implies it is a South African entity and embodies the following purpose for it’s founding members The founding members include (amongst others) Delville Pipe band, Durban Regiment Pipe band , and various individual members. In 2004 the bands and individuals that have association with SA Scots have grown wider and now include Algoa Black and White Scotch Whisky Pipe Band, East London Caledonian Pipe Band, and St Benedicts School Pipe Band. (The naming of the Grade 4 band Ravens, reflects the alma mater of the school.) Delville Pipe Band (Now SA Scots – [Grade 3 band]) has built a well established and reputable name in international competition , competing successfully in Scotland for five successive years from 1998-2002. It has achieved many placings in international competition, the most notable being 5th Place in Grd IIIB at the World Championships in 1998 , 2nd Place (Grade III) at the North Berwick Highland Games in 1999, and 3rd Place (Grade III) at the Edinburgh Milennium Championships in 2000. Delville Pipeband’s highest placing to date being 9th place in Grade III at the World Championships in 2002. The SA Scots Society , intends to carry this success into the future and extend on the knowledge and experience gained by its founding members over many years.
