Branch 163 Royal Canadian Legion Pipe Band
Our band has provided pipe music for the residents of Hamilton and elsewere for over 30 years.
The band was formed in 1971 by Pipe Major Bus Featherstone Drum Major Art Culp, to carry out parade duties for the Mt. Hamilton Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 163. The membership, today which includes a few of it's original members stands at 25. Some of the community events supported by the band are appearances for seniors at the St.Elizabeth Villa as well as Wellington House, the annual Hamilton Boy Scout and Girl Guide and Labour Day parades. The Sound of Music in Burlington, the Port Dover Canada Day celebrations, the Grape Festival in St.Catherines, and the Waterford Pumpkinfest as well as other area events. The band also participates in the Scottish gatherings at Orillia and Dennison Armouries in Toronto. Former Pipe Majors of the band include Hugh McLean Jr., Bob Morrow, Ian Drummond, Norm Stronach and John McCafferty. The pipe band today wearing the McKenzie tartan, is under the musical direction of Pipe Major Gary Woods and Drum Major Jim Smith assisted by Pipe Sgt. Matt Challenger.
