Military pipe band located at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba
1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Pipes and Drums formed 25 October 1988 under the authority of National Defence Headquarters Ottawa, Canada and at the request of then Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. DS Moreside. 1 RCHA Pipes and Drums served in Lahr, West Germany with 4 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group as part of Canada’s NATO commitment from October 1988 until its return to the home station of The Royal Canadian Artillery in Shilo, Manitoba, Canada in July 1992. While stationed overseas the Pipes and Drums performed throughout continental Europe for many military and civilian occasions. The tartan worn by 1 RCHA Pipes and Drums, the Ancient Leslie, was not only approved by NDHQ, but also The Earl of Roth, the Clan Chief. The tartan was chosen in honour of one of the Regiments past Commanding Officers and Colonel Commandant, Brigadier General EMD Leslie.
