Scots Old Boys Pipes and Drums
The Scots Old Boys Pipes and Drums has been in existence since 1993, led by Gordon Robinson. Over the past decade, the band has performed around three parades a year, offering an opportunity for ex-students of The Scots College (Sydney) who learnt the pip
In March 2003, a new band was formed under the same name of 'Scots Old Boys'. Concerned primarily with competition, we operate separately from the existing massed band, however the two bands play as one for three major parades (Bundanoon is Brigadoon, ANZAC Day, and Remembrance Day). In respect to our ties with the college band, both Old Boys bands wear Black Watch kilts. Membership into the Competition Band is conditional and includes a rigorous assessment process, nevertheless we welcome anyone interested in joining to contact us or turn up to a practice (you needn't be a Scots old boy). There are currently both pipers and drummers in training, and now is an excellent time to get involved. The Band is registered with the NSW Pipe Band Association. Despite being less than two years since foundation, we can boast an impressive record from our short history. We debuted with a Grade 4 win (points only) at Scots in September 2003. The state championships at Castle Hill in November 2003 marked our first 'real' contest and we performed accordingly, securing 2nd place in a highly competitive Grade 4. As a result of our early success, the state grading committee decided the band was to be promoted to Grade 3 for 2004, along with United Mineworkers (the band who beat us to win grade 4 state title). This year saw several performances with the massed old boys, starting with 'Bundanoon is Brigadoon' in April 2004, a good day for the combined band of over twenty, with three solid performances throughout the day in front of a crowd well in excess of fifteen thousand spectators.
