Mystic Highland Pipeband

The Mystic Highland Pipe Band was formed in 1970 when some enthusiastic men working at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut thought of starting a Pipe Band.

The Mystic Highland Pipe Band saw its inception in 1970 when some enthusiastic men working at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut thought of starting a Pipe Band. The Band marched in its first official parade on Memorial Day 1972 in the town of Ledyard, CT. That day is well over a 1000 performances ago. Since then, the Mystic Highland Pipe Band has become one of the favorite sights and sounds in events in and around New England. The Band has performed from New Hampshire to the Waldorf Astoria in New York City. The Band has been a guest Band performing with the U.S. Coast Guard National Band at their Academy in New London, CT on a number of occasions. The Mystic Highland Pipe Band wears the Royal Stewart and Black Watch Tartan. The uniform worn by both men and women, which vary in age from young to mature, is of the Scottish Regimental style; it is the uniform with its color and pageantry and the sounds of the Great Highland Bagpipes and Drums that continue to bring a little bit of Scotland to excited audiences all over New England. Now in its 33rd year, the Mystic Highland Pipe Band is directed by Pipe Major Bob Scent. The Band practices each and every Wednesday evening at the University of Connecticut Extension at Avery Point in Groton CT. Lesson are given to anyone interested and classes are always in session.
