Wolf River Pipes and Drums
Wolf River Pipes and Drums was founded in 1992 in order to perpetuate and promote the proud heritage of Scottish music in the Memphis and Mid South Area.
Since then it has played in local parades, funerals, weddings, memorial services, grand openings, business meetings, kirkings, festivals, picnics, parties, ceileidhs, and many other events; anywhere people gather for fun, entertainment, or reflection in Tennessee, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, Alabama and Mississippi. Wolf River Pipes and Drums welcomes serious students. Attendance and dedication are required. It is said that seven years do a piper make. Generally a student begins on the paractice chanter and learns the basic notes, followed by the embellishments or grace notes. This may take six months to a year of daily practice. After that time the student progresses to the pipes and spends the next several months building up the stamina to blow strongly and evenly, for the pipes consist of a double bladed chanter reed and three single bladed drone reeds. Finally the tunes are committed to memory until they can be played oft by heart.
