Aberdeen bagpipe supply is the piper's source for dunfion handcrafted bagpipes, scottish smallpipes and quality piping accessories
We started aberdeen bagpipe supply as a family business in march 1997 because of a desire to offer a unique i donproduct to the north american market. until then, dunfion bagpipes were not well known here. i am a piper and a businessman and i can recognize and appreciate quality. i felt that this was a product which had a bright future and i wanted to offer what skills i might have to help bring about that future. i had spoken with other owners of bagpipe supply companies and knew that i didn't want to just join their ranks by offering the same products as every other supply company. i don't want to be associated with just run-of-the-mill products. it just doesn't excite me. in the early days, when bagpipes were first being made, they were pretty plain on the outside. later when they were being bored on a lathe, someone realized that he could dress up his bagpipes by putting a design on them. it was a pretty easy procedure to simply run a comb-like tool against the turning wood to achieve a design. and so combing and beading became the common method of decorating bagpipes. jim makes a silver ferrule in henry's shop as henry looks on.of course, ivory, silver and other such items were introduced, but the actual design on the wood was limited by the craftsmanship abilities of the lathe worker. since most lathe operators can only decorate the wood design by combing and beading that design had held to this day.
