Mid Argyll Pipe band was formed in the 1920's and is one of Scotland's oldest Pipe Bands
Mid Argyll Pipe Band is based in the heart of the ancient kingdom of Dalriada (modern day Mid Argyll).
We are one of the oldest civilian pipe bands in Scotland with a history stretching back to the early 1900's.
Our tartan is Ancient Sutherland.
We currently have 2 bands.
The main band re-commenced competing in Grade 4b in 2011 and we have recently launched a novice juvenile band.
We perform at local events and competitions, but Mid Argyll Pipe Band are also available for private engagements.
We have a philosophy of producing our own home grown talent. The largest percentage of current performers have been taught from scratch by our tutors.
Pipers and chanter players come up through Rod Buchanan's classes held in Kilmartin, whilst drumming students start to learn at our Tuesday evening practices.
Practice nights are shown below.
Tuesdays from 19:00 until 21:30 in the South Church Hall in Ardrishaig.
Thursdays from 19:00 until 22:00 in the North Church Hall in Ardrishaig.
Anyone wishing to join the band should come along to one of the practices or make contact via the "Contact" page.
Mid Argyll Pipe Band have been sponsored by Maitland since 2004.
Angus Maitland is originally from the Mid Argyll area and is the founder and chairman of a
leading financial and corporate communications agency based in London. He was born in South
Knapdale and lived in Lochgilphead from the age of 4, where he learned to play the chanter.
We are very grateful to have continuing support from Maitland.-
