I have had the privilege of hearing Robert play on many occasions, it is a joy! I would recommend him for any situation. The music will warm your heart and ask your feet to dance.
During the period when I worked as the site administrator for the Hempsted Houses historic site in New London, CT we held an annual summer music festival. Internationally recognized musicians were hired to participate. Robert was brought in to play his pipes for the event each year. His music always set a perfect tone for the event and was always well received. I can recommend him very highly.
I had the very good fortune to play with Robert O'Connor on St. Patrick's Day, 2012, in pub called 84 High Street in Westerly, RI. My good friend (Tom Foley) and I both had acoustic guitars, and Robert of course brought his hallowed pipes. We had been practicing and looking forward to this show during the weeks prior to March 17th, but the night itself transcended any preconceived hopes we had. With a crowded house before us, we threw caution to the wind, and instead of the "indoor pipes," Robert brought in the big guns ~ and the effect was electric. With his soulful playing, Robert elevated the night from drunken revelry to an evening of inspiration and celebration. Whether he was playing "Gary Owen" or "Wearing of the Green," we all became transfixed at the genuine beauty of what we were hearing. I simply can not wait till I have the good fortune of playing with Robert O'Connor again... You will not find a kinder soul that plays the pipes with such grace and reverence.
