Jesse Walker Bills - Bagpiper in Oklahoma I was born in Palmer, Alaska just before the Valdez oil spill. I started piping when I was about 9 years old. I lived in Wasilla, Alaska until 2004 when I moved to the “lower 48”.
I have had the best teachers and the most loyal of friends who have taught me my craft. At the top of the list of the best teachers was my first, Mark Ryan of Anchorage, Alaska. Along with Alan Walter of Vancouver, Canada, he suffered. I struggled. He sweated. I learned. He smiled. I finally believed I could do it. And I did.
My grandparents gave me the opportunity to travel and compete as far away as Scotland. While I studied and learned, they footed the “bills” and opened the doors for me with the best teachers in the world.
My first band, Crow Creek Pipes and Drums of Anchorage, Alaska was my anchor during a lot of hard times. Now the Westminster Pipes and Drums of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is my new family. I continue to grow within the band. More important, I strive to develop as an individual who brings honor to my teachers, my family, my bands, and my country.
