Matt Willis is an experienced piper serving both North and Central Texas Matt began on the highland bagpipes in 1996 and started Mattpiper Bagpiping in 2001, and he continues to help make Texans more aware of Scottish and Irish culture and music. In 2005, Matt began playing the Irish uilleann pipes in addition to the highland pipes; the uilleann (pronounced ill' uhn) bagpipe is a quieter instrument, perfect for small parties and church services, or any event where volume may be an issue. For those interested in learning to play the Scottish highland bagpipe or the Irish uilleann pipes, Matt Willis offers private instruction. In addition to private students, Matt is also the head instructor for the Austin Fire Department Pipe Band and has trained many members of the award-winning Silver Thistle Pipes & Drums. Either the highland or uilleann bagpipe complement any festive occasion, such as a wedding or birthday party. They may also be used in remembrance of a loved one. Matt Willis is a member of the Dallas-based celtic rock band The Killdares. He has competed internationally at the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland and has won awards as a solo piper. In addition to instruction and performance, Matt Willis can also restore and repair older bagpipes. If in the market for a new set of pipes, Matt is a reseller for MacLellan Highland Bagpipes and welcomes all to take a look at these magnificent instruments.
