St. Andrew's Society of Winnipeg Pipe BandSt. Andrew's Society of Winnipeg Pipe Band, a premier pipe band located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
The band was formed in 1973 and has performed at many local parades, concerts, for visiting dignitaries, and at functions for our parent organization The St. Andrew's Society of Winnipeg. The band has been awarded the Champion Supreme title from the Prairie Pipe Band Association of Manitoba every year since 2000. Under the direction of Pipe Major Wes Sheppard and Drum Sergeant Bob Cooper, we performed our first concert entitled 'Breaking Ground' in January 2005. The concert featured performances by the band, solo piping and drumming performances, 'non-traditional' percussion arrangements by Roland Reid, the Irene Baird School of Highland Dance, and the youth choral group 'Prodigy' from Miles MacDonell Collegiate under the direction of Zane Zalis. Two performances were held, and both were sold out. We are looking forward to making this concert an annual event. In 2004 we formed a Grade 4 band, Manitoba's newest pipe band. The band is intended for adult players, as a stepping stone for recent graduates from youth bands wishing to transition into the Grade 2 band, and for Grade 2 band members wishing to take time off from the Grade 2 band without leaving our organization. The Grade 4 band has competed in the spring and summer 2005.
