The Mid-Atlantic Branch is halfway through its competition season with four out of eight competitions being completed. The Virginia Scottish Games in Alexandria has changed both its date and location. Visit the games Web site at www.vascottishgames.com for more details.
Congratulations to the Ulster Scottish Pipe Band for winning the Grade 3 branch qualifier for this year’s EUSPBA Championships. Many thanks go out to the Colonial Highland Gathering at Fairhill, Maryland, for hosting the branch qualifier. The Anne Arundel Scottish Festival and Highland Games on October 14 will be the site for the Grade 3 EUSPBA Pipe Band Championships. However, all other band contest for Grades 3 through 5 will be held as usual on that day as well. Because of the additional contest, no solo competitions will be offered at Anne Arundel for this year. If you have any questions, please email Helen Harlow at harlow59@msn.com. Thanks to the Anne Arundel Scottish Festival for hosting the championship contest.
The branch currently has two meetings scheduled in the coming months. There will be a meeting held following the final massed bands at the Virginia Scottish Games on September 16.
The branch annual meeting will be held on Sunday, October 29 in Richmond, VA. Any items for the EUSPBA AGM will be discussed at this meeting. Items to be discussed must be submitted in writing no later than October 16. In conjunction with our Annual branch meeting, we will be holding a Metro Cup qualifier for any Mid-Atlantic Branch Grade 1 piper. Registration forms will be mailed to all branch Grade I solo pipers.
Our condolences go out to the McConnell family on the passing of Matt McConnell. Matt is well known throughout the eastern US as a tenor drummer, teacher, adjudicator and the owner of Highland Heritage. His lost will be felt throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
