Hello all.

I was in a pipe band for some 10 years, and after a lapse of 10 years I wish to go back and do some piping.

I am looking to buy some plastic drone reeds, any suggestions? I am so 'out of the loop'!

Kind regards,

Patrick

Hello,

I have been playing Crozier Carbon Drone Reeds (http://www.crozierbagpipes.com/) for the last two years and I think they sound great.

I have played cane reeds for the better part of 17 years before the Crozier Reeds (http://www.crozierbagpipes.com/) with the exception of trying some other plastic reeds. The other plastic reeds I have tried sounded ok but did not hold up well over time. The main problem I had was the reeds would shut down with extended playing and in adverse weather.

The Crozier reeds have consistently played well under all weather conditions and I don't have to worry about playing them too long and having them shut down.

I'm sure there are other good drone reeds on the market but I will be sticking with the Crozier for the time being.

Hurray this is my first post!!!

In my opinion. The new plastic reeds are much the same same as the old cane ones, in that one kind work great in one set of pipes and be `pants`in another! Best thing to do is hit the local shop if you have one have a go at a few. I too play the Crozier reeds and really like em`.That said they may not work as well in your pipes or may need a ton of fiddling and never really have great sound. I used too have Shephards. Never liked the sound and could never get em set up right. I gave them to a friend and he plugged them didn`t even touch a bridle and they sounded lovely.
