My son is a 15 year old piper, and very much looking forward to competing in the games this summer. He was in a car accident in early March & sustained a pretty bad concussion. Initially, he recovered quickly & was doing great. He started piping again at the beginning of April, and is now having an increase in headaches & memory problems. :(

I'm trying to find a piper, or someone who knows a piper, who played after a concussion to find out what his/her experience was like. Appreciate any insight y'all might have.
Thanks!

Sue

it's best to check with doctor on this kind of things. sometimes i get headache playing pipes even without ever having bad concussion. it might have something to do with pressure on the head while blowing into the bag.. then again, i'm not a doctor..

Sue:

I can't advise you about concussions. However I am a 56 year old learning chanter who had an ischemic transient attack several years ago. Basically that's a stroke. I find that learning the chanter and I hope the pipes increases my memory function, makes me more concentrated and better focused.

Hi, I have had concussions before and I know that it will take months before you are back to normal. I wouldn't advise it but still check with doc about it. I certainly wouldn't bagpipe with a concussion. Too much strain on the brain!!!!
