I just wanted to say hello to everyone.

I just bought a practice chanter (Dunbar large), the green book, and I just started taking lessons from a local pipe band.

I'm having a blast!

Congratulations and Good Luck.

Some of my favorite bagpipe music books were written by Burt Mitchell. He has four books altogether, each book features numerous bagpipe tunes and a music cd with each tune played on the practice chanter. You can play along with each tune, which is played at slower tempo helpful for learning tunes.

Nothing compares to a real instructor but these books can really help learn some new music once you get the basics down and start playing full tunes.

The National Piping Center has put together some excellent tutor books, which I highly recommend taking a look at. If you can't find them locally contact the NPC directly.

Piping is a blast no doubt .. As time goes ON as Bagpiper says figure on checking out "other" writers as well.. one thing about the green book, is while it gets you going andlearning in a hurry , it leaves you hanging in many ways, and book 2 and 3 dont really pick up the slack... Not being down on the COFP or anyone where one lacks others pick up..Logans tutor is quite advanced for a Beginner but with a couple years experiance it Can ice the cake and with some guidance from otherswill define all the gaps in Book 1 ..
BOOK one is here is an important movement hereit is in atune... here are some more and here the are in the tune .. Whoops you just played a tune !!
logans is more like here is a Movement learn it going up and down the scale and play movement scales musically, now here are some cool tunes... using them..............together they seemed to answer some questions and what ifs... Good luck... stick with it and dont get discouraged !!!! Its work, and series of steps to get up and playing ....for sure J

Hello,

Best of Luck and learning the bagpipes.

I am also a big fan of the Burt Mitchell Music Books and CD's. I have posted the list of tunes that are included in each book on Bagpiper.Com.

Burt Mitchell Pipe Assistant Volume 1 (62 Classic Highland Tunes) (http://bagpiper.com/info/n-15/Vol-1-Pipe-Teachers-Assistant.html)

Burt Mitchell Pipe Assistant Volume 2 (47 Classic Highland Tunes) (http://bagpiper.com/info/n-14/Vol-2-Pipe-Teachers-Assistant.html)

(http://bagpiper.com/info/n-13/Vol-3-Pipe-Teachers-Assistant-Disc2.html)Burt Mitchell Pipe Assistant Volume 3 (Winning Marches Disc 1) (http://bagpiper.com/info/n-12/Vol-3-Pipe-Teachers-Assistant-Disc1.html)
Burt Mitchell Pipe Assistant Volume 3 (Winning Marches Disc 2) (http://bagpiper.com/info/n-13/Vol-3-Pipe-Teachers-Assistant-Disc2.html)

Burt Mitchell Pipe Assistant Volume 4 (Irish Air's and Quicksteps) (http://bagpiper.com/forums/../info/n-16/Vol-4-Pipe-Teachers-Assistant.html)

The above books are great for learning new tunes and playing along with your chanter, but they are not tutorials.

I have also started to collect a series of links and articles that I hope are helpful for new students. You can view these links by clicking here. (http://bagpiper.com/pages/learningthebagpipes/)
